Terms and acceptable use for Codex Host.

Beta service

Codex Host is an early-stage hosted development-machine service designed for Codex Remote. Features, providers, resource limits, prices, and availability may change as the beta evolves. The service may experience interruptions or require repair/re-pairing.

Your accounts and code

You remain responsible for your source code, repositories, application configuration, secrets, and your separate GitHub and OpenAI/ChatGPT accounts. You must have the rights needed to use any code, data, credentials, or services you connect to the host.

Acceptable use

Codex Host is for legitimate software-development work. Do not use it to compromise systems, distribute malware, send spam, perform abusive scanning, mine cryptocurrency, evade service limits, operate prohibited content/services, infringe others' rights, or conduct activity that violates applicable law or the terms of the underlying providers.

Resource, request, machine-count, capacity, and provider limits may be enforced to protect the service. Access may be suspended or terminated for abuse or material risk to the platform or other users.

Plans and billing

Paid plans are billed through Stripe at the price and renewal terms shown at checkout. The public Try It offer charges its displayed upfront amount, provides the stated trial period, and then renews on the displayed Developer monthly plan unless canceled before the renewal.

Invite-only private beta access is separate, requires no card, is limited to the duration on the invitation, and does not create a right to repeated free access.

Cancellation and machine deletion

You can use the billing controls exposed by Codex Host/Stripe for paid-plan cancellation. When compute entitlement ends, Codex Host requests deletion of the hosted machine and releases its capacity. Back up anything you need before entitlement ends.

No backup service

Codex Host is not a source-code backup product. Keep important work pushed to GitHub or backed up somewhere you control. Do not assume that an individual hosted machine, its uncommitted work, or its local secrets can be recovered after provider failure or deletion.

Security responsibilities

Protect your GitHub, OpenAI/ChatGPT, and Codex Host accounts. Do not share device codes, pairing codes, passwords, tokens, or private keys in support messages. You are responsible for secrets and credentials you place inside your hosted environment.

Availability and liability during beta

The beta is provided on an as-available basis without a service level agreement. Do not use it as the sole location for irreplaceable data or for workloads where downtime or loss of an environment would cause unacceptable harm.

Material product or policy changes may require these beta terms to be updated. The current version is the version published on this page. Questions or account issues can be submitted through support.
